生き甲斐 – Purpose is what the world needs.
We love everything about the Japanese concept 生き甲斐 (Ikigai) referring to something that gives you a sense of purpose and a reason for living.
The word Ikigai originates from the island of Okinawa which was once a place of extreme suffering during World War II. Today it is home to more people over the age of 100 than in any other place on Earth.
Not only do Okinawans live incredibly long and healthy lives, but their lives are filled with happiness, serenity, camaraderie, and plenty of activity.
How do they do this? They live their lives based on ikigai principles, a delicate balance at the intersection of four distinct parts:
1. What you’re passionate about
2. Where your skills lie
3. How you can earn a living
4. What the world needs
The inhabitants of Okinawa are doing all of the right things to support a long and meaningful life. They have found their ikigai. They understand their purpose, the value of kindness, community, and living in the moment.
More Purpose is what the world needs now.
Helping clients define their purpose is an integral part of the work we do. It starts with business strategy and leadership and is interwoven into all aspects of brand communication to clearly demonstrate what they stand for and their willingness to make good decisions that benefit their business, all people, and the planet.

“Ikigai can be defined as ‘a sense of being alive now, an individual’s consciousness as a motive to live.“
