Having recently watched ‘Buy Now!” on Netflix it’s blatantly obvious that it’s time for a re-think. Stuff doesn’t make us happy. @t_in_what and @w_e_n_d_y_h_o_d_g_s_o_n_ had the p @t_in_what and @w_e_n_d_y_h_o_d_g_s_o_n_ had the pleasure of speaking to the Graphic Design and Illustration students at the University of Suffolk today, as part of their ‘Life After Lectures’ series. We shared our journey since graduating in 1997 from UCE (Birmingham Institute of Art and Design), reflecting on the unexpected and enjoyable path our careers have taken over the past 30 years. Here are a few insights we shared: • People matter: Build and nurture your network. Treat people well. People hire people. • Don’t be intimidated: The creative world can be overwhelming, but you can learn what you don’t know. Back yourself. • Do what you love: Your passions outside of design (photography, writing, music, sport, etc.) will give you a unique edge. Bring those experiences into your creative work. • Keep learning • You don’t need a master plan: Trust your instincts. Be positive, brave, and take opportunities when they come. If you’re not happy, move on. • Creative thinking is needed everywhere: Your ability to solve problems and see the world from different angles is a skill that’s valuable in any industry. An art education helps develop a creative mindset, which is exactly what the world needs right now, especially as AI continues to change how we work. The students asked great questions, and it was fantastic to meet so many of them after the lecture. During our recent interview at the @herd.hq launch During our recent interview at the @herd.hq launch event, we were asked to reflect on the ups and downs of running our business and share some hard-earned lessons. It made us think about the journey we’ve been on, so here are three key insights we’ve learned along the way: 1.Stay level-headed
 Running a business comes with its fair share of emotional roller coasters, whether it’s the excitement of a new project or the stress of setbacks. We’ve learned that it’s crucial to stay grounded. There will always be highs and lows, but keeping focused on the bigger vision and pushing forward, with small steps is how you make it through both. 2. Surround yourself with a good crowd. We feel incredibly lucky to have a strong network of friends, family, and professional mentors who keep us on track. Having people who believe in you, often more than you believe in yourself, is a so important. Regular feedback and support have been essential for us. 3. Don’t take work home. 
This is always easier said than done. But we’ve made it a priority to separate our personal life from work life as much as possible. It’s been key not only for maintaining our marriage but also for preserving our creativity as business partners. And importantly, our kids banned “work talk” at home because, quite rightly, they wanted our attention and to spend time with their parents, not business partners. Everyone’s journey is different, but these three things have helped us stay on course.
