Groundwork East Trailblazing Campaign

We’ve teamed up with Groundwork East for a campaign to celebrate Suffolk’s tourism businesses committed to reducing their carbon footprint and experiencing the benefits. Aimed at encouraging others to get involved and sign up for free support and advice from the carboncharter.org

Meet the trailblazers!

  • The Brook Inn Washbrook: Installed solar panels and upgraded equipment, saving £2,765 in electricity in one year and generating 7,900 kWh of clean energy.
  • Jet Adventures Lowestoft: Switched to a greener jet-drive boat and electric van, cutting fuel and maintenance costs while attracting eco-conscious tourists.
  • Folk East Festival: Powered key areas with solar, banned disposables and reduced energy and clean-up costs, while creating an even better festival experience.
  • New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich: Cut their carbon footprint through smart lighting upgrades and sustainable practices.

The campaign look is vibrant, bright, and positive, reflecting the energy and optimism behind each story. Their journeys are brought to life through photography and infographics that combine emotional impact with clear, accessible information. Supporting materials include interactive PDF toolkits x 3 (for Hospitality & Theatre, Events and Festivals & Visitor and Cultural Attractions) with resources and checklists to help people get started, a social media strategy with ready-to-use posts, and a series of posters and adverts to spread the message further.

It’s been a brilliant project to be part of, so inspiring, we’ve loved working with the @GroundworkEast team and finding out all about these initiatives and the FREE support available here in Suffolk. For more information, please visit: carboncharter.org

WHAT we’re doing to cut carbon
As members of the Carbon Charter ourselves, we’ve made significant changes to reduce our carbon footprint and have benefited from being connected with like-minded businesses that share our values and positive outlook.

A few small steps can have a positive impact:

  • Switched to green web, email, and energy suppliers
  • Upgraded to more sustainable processes
  • Reduced waste by reusing, repairing, and recycling equipment
  • Evaluated cloud storage impact; supported by Dropbox’s 2030 goal
  • Shortened archive time for raw photography files
  • Regularly delete unused emails, photos, docs, and notes
  • Send fewer emails; we avoid unnecessary messages like “thanks”
  • Share files via links instead of attachments
  • Walk to work and meetings where possible
  • Choose eco materials for essential print work
  • Prioritise digital over physical delivery
  • Partner with sustainable suppliers and producers
  • Design for longevity to minimise waste
  • Use energy-efficient devices in our studio
  • Donate to environmental charities instead of offsetting
  • Share green practices with clients and collaborators
  • Offer pro bono support to charities that align with our values and share our vision
